Mishkin Qalam

  Portrait of Mishkin Qalam

Mishkin Qalam (Musk- scented pen) was born Aqa Husayn-i-Isfahani and was the calligrapher who penned The Greatest Name, which is displayed in every Baha’I household. He learned about the Faith in Isfahan and travelled to Baghdad and on to Adrianople where he met Baha’u’llah and became a close companion of the Holy Family. When Baha’u’llah and His companions were exiled to Akka, Mishkin Qalam was sent to Cyprus, from there he travelled to Egypt, Damascus and India until Abdu’l- Baha summoned him to the Holy Land in 1886. He passed away in 1912 but his beautiful calligraphy is treasured throughout the world. In this portrait we see Mishkin Qalam in front of the beautiful Imam Mosque in his home town of Isfahan.
